How to stay safe in the case of an emergency when your vehicle breaks down?
Always move the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. Don’t do any repairs out in the middle of the street. Once your car is on the side of the road you can then assess your vehicle for repairs and call for roadside assistance. If a loved one or a pet is locked in the vehicle, break the windows or call the police. Do not leave children, the elderly, or pets, inside locked vehicles. Don’t exit vehicles while you’re on a busy road or intersection. Put your hazard blinkers on, pull off to the side of the road, and turn off the engine. Please do not attempt any repairs while your car is still running. Performing repairs can cause serious burns and accidents. |
